Rain, rain, don't go away!

I know. Southern California is full of sun worshippers who can't wait to see the bright, warm sun after a rainy, cold day. But those of us who love wildflowers can't wait for the rains to come - and stay for a long time. Especially in the desert, where rain comes so seldom, every drop precious and every flower so beautiful.

So rain, rain come again! We need more water on the parched land, not for us to hoard and use, but for little seeds to crack open and send up in shoots that finish in a colorful explosion of spring wildflowers.

Celebrate and worship your much vaunted sunshine in the hot, dry summer months to come, after the flowers have set seed and died to await another winter rain. Give me the cold, wet days of winter so that I can worship the spring!
